Cold Spring Tops Harborfields in Nassau v. Suffolk Non-Leaguer

Caroline Debellis @carolinedebellis & Isabelle Vitale @isabellevitale were the 1 -> 2 punch that led Cold Spring Harbor towards victory today against a tough Harborfields squad.

#1 & #2 put on a show at Jim Amen Field as Debellis displayed her usual slickness around the crease by moving snivley (sneaky and lively) off-ball and netting a game high, 5 goals. She even cashed in on a beautiful BTB after scooping up a GB around the goal line extended. Her bestie Vitale hooked it up all game. Vitale dropped SIX! dimes 👛 on the day, finishing with two goals, including one absolute stinger 🐝 top left. The final score at Cold Spring Harbor was 10-5.

The FLG Premier Showcase

With the Spring Season underway, it is important to begin to look forward to the summer. Long Island being a hot bed for lacrosse, a large number of players have aspirations of playing in college. But how do you separate yourself from the competition?

Attending the right events is important to ensure that you gain the exposure needed to be seen by College Coaches, in hopes of getting recruited and playing at the next level.

NCAA Highlighted First Year – Week 1

The Muhlenberg Mules are off to a great start to the 2019 season. A 5-1 overall record, the Mules have secured quality wins over teams like Scranton, Susquehana and Southern Virginia. Finding the back of the net has been no problem Mules, especially for freshman midfielder James Dalimonte.

CSH v. Port Srimmage @ Seahawk Field

As the Port Washington boys lacrosse team started to file off the bus, Cold Spring immediately turned on a switch. From loose to all business, solo senior captain, Danny Striano immediately took charge and led the Seahawks on their token half field lap. Cold Spring’s stretch remained static, while Port’s dynamic. After a quick warm-up, it was the starters from Cold Spring against the starters from Port.

#3 Mount Sinai Lady Mustangs Season Preview

How does a perennial powerhouse rebound from a heartbreaking loss in the 2018 Long Island Championship Game? “One game at a time”. That is how Head Coach, Al Bertolone described the approach for the 2019 Mount Sinai Girls Lacrosse team. After winning three consecutive State Championships, the Mustangs lost to, eventual State Champ, Cold Spring Harbor, last season. With so much playoff success, it is easy to become focused only on results, and you can feel as though you have failed, unless you win the State Championship. While the Mustangs have certainly had their share of victories and Championships, to Coach Bertolone, that is not the only measure of success. He tries to keep his program focused on the “journey”, not necessarily the destination. “Losing last year, was not a bad thing”, sometimes you “need to fail, to move forward”, Bertolone explained. And that is exactly what this year’s team is looking to do. They are “hungry” and very “motivated”, to return to the top of Class C.

#2 Eastport South Manor Lady Sharks Season Preview

The 2019 edition of the Eastport South Manor girls lacrosse team will be determined to make school history by capturing a State Championship. Even though last year’s squad won the Suffolk County class B Championship, a strong returning cast feels like they have something to prove. They have gotten close to the ultimate prize and are now laser focused on winning their final game this year. In order to reach such a lofty goal, Coach Thorne will turn to a highly accomplished trio of returning seniors to provide the leadership the Sharks will need if they are to develop the mental toughness and confidence that all great teams must have. Catherine Flaherty, who will be a Maryland Terrapin next year, will lead the defense, while two way Midfielders, Jaime Biskup (UVA) and Kasey Choma (Notre Dame, and U19 USA hopeful), should anchor the team at both ends of the field. On Attack, the Sharks expect good things from Jess Morrisroe and Celeste Forte, who both step into bigger roles this season.

#1 Northport Lady Tigers Season Preview

The 2019 Northport Tigers have “unfinished business.” After losing in the Suffolk Class A Championship a season ago, the Tigers felt they left a lot on the field that day. Although a disappointing finish to what was a very successful 2018 season, the new and improved Northport girls lacrosse team is, above all things, left feeling hungry to regain dominance in Suffolk Class A.

1 Caitlin Anderson, Junior Defense Manhasset, W and L

Second Team All- ODAC selection, Anderson was a member of the All- Tournament team and pick up 37 ground balls on the season

2 Lilly Bernardi, Junior Defense, Massapequa, TCJN

Started all 23 games for the Lions and Led the nation in scoring defense.

3 Annika Johnsen, Senior Midfield, Bellport, Messiah

55 points on the year, securing 22 draw controls, Johnsen marked First Team All- Mac Commonwealth and First Team All- Metro
