Respond.

Why is it so important to respond & what should you respond to?

In today’s day, there are many ways to get in touch with someone. You can shout their name, give them a call, shoot them an email, leave them a voicemail, send a text, or write an old fashioned letter. Not responding when someone reaches out can impact what other people think of you. Below we’ve listed 7 reasons you should respond when people try reaching out:

1. Replying back is an opportunity to learn something new. You never know what the person on the other end of the line is going to share with you.

2. Replying is an opportunity to build a relationship. Don’t be scared if you don’t know the person who reaches out or the phone number that reaches out. If they leave a message and seem legitimate, than you should respond.

3. Responding is the respectful thing to do. Going back in time, when writing letters was the only way to reach out to someone far away, not responding demonstrated a sign of disrespect.

4. You never know, replying  back to someone might present you, your company, or someone you know with a great opportunity! I’m not referring to the robots that leave voicemails saying, “You’ve won a trip to the Bahamas!” I’m referring to a real person reaching out saying, “We have a product/service that could really benefit you or your company! Please give us a call back so we can tell you more about why it could help you.”

5. Being responsive shows you are mature, organized, and care.

6. Being responsive shows you have quality communicative skills. That’s an attractive trait that everyone should develop. Coaches and job hunters that are looking to recruit you want to know you have the ability to communicate clearly and consistently.

7. Failing to respond, often leads to a full Voice-mailbox. If someone reaches out to you and your mailbox is full, that doesn’t look good for you. Who knows, the person reaching out might be leaving you a message to provide good news or a great opportunity.  Don’t be that guy/girl. Keep room in your voice-mailbox. Respond.

The Legit Boys Experience

Legit Back Helmet

At the FLG Legit Showcase, players get more than great exposure to some of the best college coaches in the country. Players get an opportunity to receive great coaching, receive recognition for their outstanding play, develop character, leadership, and understand what it means to be ‘LEGIT.’ Throughout the Legit Boys Showcase, players are awarded decals. To learn more about what these decals represent, read below.

Wear 19 Decal Wear 19 Decal

FLG Lacrosse started the Wear 19 Campaign to honor an American Hero, Welles Remy Crowther. Welles (#19) played lacrosse and graduated from Boston College. After graduating, Welles took a job in the World Trade Center as an equities trader. During the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001, Welles didn’t make it out alive. Wearing a red bandana over his face to prevent smoke inhalation, Welles successfully rescued over a dozen employees working in the South Tower. During the last couple minutes of his life, he sacrificed for the sake of others. Welles was a courageous, intelligent, selfless, well-raised young man. In the FLG Program, we award an FLG jersey with a Red 19 to 1-boy and 1-girl who best exemplifies the characteristics of Welles Crowther. At the FLG Legit Showcase, we will award a Red 19 decal to player’s that exemplify what Welles was all about. Will you Wear19?

JS DecalJS Decal

JS stands for Jack Sandler. Jack was the Head Coach for Colby College, a true lacrosse enthusiast, and a great friend to many in the lacrosse community. Jack passed away this past year at just 35 years old. Joe Allen, who started HeadWrapz (the original helmet decal company, supplying decals for the Legit Showcase) said, “Jack loved the game of lacrosse. His true passion was teach and help students develop their full potential.” For those of you that don’t know, FLG stands for ‘For the Love of the Game.’ Our mission aligns with Jack’s. FLG wants to help players reach their full potential while maintaining a passion for this great game. Players at the Legit Showcase that play the game with passion and demonstrate a thirst for developing as a studlete, can earn a JS decal for their helmet.

Star DecalAll-star Decal

On the second night of the Legit Boys Showcase, we will be having 2 all-star games. The first of the two games will be the top 50 rising juniors and seniors at the event. The second all-star game will host the top 50 rising freshman and sophomores at the event. All-star teams are selected by the college coaches working the event. College coaches will discuss all-star selections together in our Deliberation Room at LIU post. All 50 coaches working the Legit Boys Showcase will be sitting on the sidelines of the All-star game. Both all-star games will be commentated – with player announcements, highlights, half-time recaps, and much more. The best part of the all-star games is we get everyone at the camp involved. FLG supplies Chipotle burritos during the all-star games for all players at the Legit Boys Showcase. If you earn the right to play in an all-star game, you will be awarded a Star Decal for your custom Cascade helmet. Are you one of the best?

LEGIT DecalLegit Decal
Each team at the Legit Boys Showcase, will be supplied with a sheet of LEGIT Decals. Throughout the event, coaches will award players who make legit lacrosse plays on the field. Below are some ways players have earned LEGIT decals in the past: Earn the most ground ball for your team in a game. Be the loudest communicator on the defensive end of the field. Work just as hard in the riding game as you do when your team has possession. When your coaches instruct you to do something and you execute that teaching point on the next play. If you notice, LEGIT stickers aren’t just for the players who score the most goals or make the most saves. LEGIT plays require players to showcase their intangible assets and demonstrate improvement, leadership, and heart. Are you LEGIT?

NBA Christmas Special

image

Things to watch during the second half of tonight’s Cav’s Warriors game.

1. Steph Curry fighting through his ankle injury. Doing whatever he can to make sure he plays. Making the crowd seem as though nothing is wrong.

2. Kyrie Irving coming off picks. He’s got the quickest first step in the game. When a teammate comes with a pick, Kyrie is guaranteed to get a step on his man and get to the hole.

3. Lebron James driving to the hoop. He makes defenders fear him, foul him, our get out of the way from him.

4. Matthew Dellavenova playing defense. He always has his hands on his man, wants the ball more than any guy on the court, plays the game with fire and enthusiasm.

5. Golden State play 5-man offense. Watch the fluidity with which they pass the ball, work as a unit, and generate high percentage shots consistently.

Enjoy some of the best athletes in the world compete on 1 stage. Happy Holidays.

What are you afraid of?

What are you afraid of? Tough question, I know. Let’s start by hearing what I’m afraid of:

Bugs.
Rodents.
Scary movies.
Sleeping home alone.
My dreams. Especially ones that are realistic.
Public speaking.
Talking to people I don’t know very well on the telephone.
What other people think of me.
Failure.
Concussions.
People thinking I’m not tough.
People thinking I’m not cool.
People thinking I’m not smart.
Fear

Fear is a response that’s intended to save our life. To protect human kind. A signal that allows us to take action, survive.
Today, fear continues to protect us. However, if you aren’t faced with a life or death situation, fear can cripple us, make us stale, make us static. Those who see fear as opportunity, will continue to get stronger, better, more well-rounded, and less fearful.
Ask yourself, what are you afraid of? Write it down and go do it.
What won’t kill you, will only make you stronger.
