As the Port Washington boys lacrosse team started to file off the bus, Cold Spring immediately turned on a switch. From loose to all business, solo senior captain, Danny Striano immediately took charge and led the Seahawks on their token half field lap. Cold Spring’s stretch remained static, while Port’s dynamic. After a quick warm-up, it was the starters from Cold Spring against the starters from Port.
Cold Spring got off to a quick start by edging the Vikings at the face-off X. Danny Striano stood out from the beginning, earning ground balls, scoring goals, and sacrificing his body as if it was early June. Brother, Rich Striano, stood out with his big hits, ground ball ability, and presence between the lines. After two quarters of play Cold Spring led Port by a score of 4-1.
CSH Take-aways
The first have included goals from south-paw attack/midfielder Brady Strough, younger brother to Taylor who is currently assisting Fairfield as a freshman. Danny Striano scored two righty goals, one coming from X (clip on our instagram @FLGLAX) and one coming down the righty alley with a beauty on the run. Rich Striano netted one of his four shots after coming down the lefty alley, mirroring his older brother and proving he has been working on his opposite hand this off-season. Defensively, Cold Spring’s close defense looked very solid. While the goalie position has been a question mark for CSH, Peter Leonard looked solid in net making a nice save at his feet after Mikey Beil stepped down from 12 yards out on EMO.
Port Take-aways
When Port Washington got the ball, they look very organized on the offensive end. Port did a great job setting up reigning All-County midfielder, Mikey Beil. Mikey operated from the high left wing and scored a beauty sweeping across the middle of the field. Port did a good job picking down and creating space for Mikey to get to the goal and get open shots on goal. Port’s first midfield will need to carry this team if they plan on hanging with top Class A opponents in 2019. Port’s defense had a tough time covering Cold Spring’s big and athletic midfielders. However, they definitely showed glimpses of good communication and organization. This team is in good hands with a Senior leader in net.
